YANG Yongping is a research professor of Botany. He is currently director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

His major research interests are to document traditional knowledge of plant use by applying ethnobotanical approach, and then some state-in-the-art technologies in phytochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, reproductive ecology and evolutionary biology, are employed in the study of useful plants, especially herbal medicine or ethno-medicine.
